The following issues in particular are on our work agenda for the coming period:

1. communication: information and networking

The JGU homepage provides a wide range of helpful information on all aspects of the doctorate. We want to bundle access to this information on our homepage so that it becomes a central contact point. The DoV will not be a separate advisory body, but a coordination point.

Our work is also intended to promote networking between interested doctoral students. To this end, we are planning various events such as the regulars’ table that has already been set up, but also other formats through which academic and personal exchange can be initiated and maintained. In particular, we find interdisciplinary exchange within the DoV extremely enriching.

2. General conditions of the doctorate

Whether a doctoral phase is successful depends to a large extent on its framework conditions: Funding, the availability of resources (workspace, access to research material, further training opportunities, etc.), compatibility with family – in line with the constructive motto “There is always something to do”, we dedicate our work to constantly improving these and other conditions. To this end, we engage in exchange and cooperation with the respective offices within the university and substitute the interests of doctoral candidates in the bodies.

3. teaching

University teaching is an important aspect of this qualification phase for many doctoral candidates. Teaching loads, access to experience in teaching and remuneration vary greatly when comparing subjects and faculties. Here, the interfaculty cooperation of the DoV represents an opportunity to learn from each other and to further optimize the conditions for all doctoral candidates. In particular, we are focusing on access to university didactics training opportunities.
